This Thanksgiving I had the absolute pleasure of doing my dear friend Ashley a favour by shooting her sister's backyard wedding. Jacquie and Jeff are definitely my kind of people; comic books, readings from The Velveteen Rabbit, simplicity and the bride's theme for her wedding, "do what you want!"

This is my Serbian Grandfather who used to think that animals are only for eating. Well we aren't in China and he's full from Easter Dinner anyways. He loves Tokyo, although both my Grandparents call her, "Tot-e-o." I'll just add this to my list of the things I didn't think were possible in my life. Grandpa+Dog=love.

TOKYO: A Christmas Miracle

Once upon a time there was a girl who thought she could fool her parents by secretly writing her own letter to Santa Claus. She pored over it for days and days, crafting each sentence so as to be not only positive, proving to Santa that she had been extra good this year, but desperate at the same time so he knew just how serious she was. The little girl ran to the mailbox and deposited the letter proceeding to pray every day that Santa would grant the wish her parents refused for what seemed like an eternity, a puppy of her very own!

Now, I'm no expert on Santa Claus and I'd like very much to know what calendar he is working with because approximately 20 years later I got my wi- er, I mean, that little girl got her wish. The story was hypothetical people.

Introducing the smallest of all the nuggets, little miss Tokyo. She is half German Shepherd and half Lab and growing like a weed. I love her to death and she loves her new family. Seriously, the other day I heard my parents say, "What took us so long to get a dog?"

My thoughts exactly for my whole life Mom and Dad!

TREES! I love em!

It has been too long since my last photo post of a wonderful day spent with a good friend shooting some promotional material for his real estate venture....

These days I've found myself back in my hometown of Brampton, living with my roommates (my parents) and trying to find a teaching job now that I am an official Ontario Teacher. The other day I went about town in search of horses and horse farms that I knew about. I found a lot of parks and trees and the credit river, yet not many horses out and about until the very end!

As my quest for a career continues I will be updating this blog more and trying to stay on top of things. Until then, lots of love.

As I write this, I'm desperately searching for flights to jolly old England so that I may accompany my darling sister while she holds her first ever art exhibit! She, (Stephanie Coffey: http://coffeydarling.blogspot.com/2010/07/lovers-and-other-strangers.html) has been lucky enough to be living and working on the beautiful shores of Brighton for the summer; answering hotel phones and bringing breakfast, photographing, writing what I'm sure is gold and definitely partying it up-but of course! She is probably one of the most talented people I have ever known, I wish her the best of luck although she does not need it.

I stumbled across these from (last Christmas?) and since we have an entire ocean separating us, this photo shoot from long ago will have to do until now. Enjoy these photos, can't wait until I visit you/ you come home (SC), lots of love.

BOOST Photography

One of the best things about being a photog is that you get to work with all kinds of different people doing all kinds of different things! Not so long ago, a very dear friend, Chelsey O'Connor (http://chelseyoconnor.com) asked me to help her out with an advertising campaign she was working on. We collaborated with the assistance of some wonderful, albeit little models; Francesco, Hailey and Nicholas who were literally thrilled to be a part of it.

Hailey is definitely my new best friend and I just adored her, Francesco the newsboy who climbed a tree for this shoot (don't tell Mom...shhh) and our amateur jouster Nicholas. I have to add here that Francesco asked me for proofs so that he could prove to his friends that he is a model, Nicholas nearly peed his pants when I told him he could keep the sword and shield that we used as his props (sidenote: I saw him 3 days later STILL wearing the shield :) and Hailey....well she was just pumped to be there and was a more than willing participant when it came to tresspassing in Farmer's fields.

If all goes well and our campaign is chosen, BOOST for Kids will be launching an anti-child abuse campaign this October and these photos will be in schools and community centres all over the country!

Fingers crossed, but all in all, I had an awesome time doing this!

He brought his own version of joke rap to this city and wanted a shoot that reflects his current style. With his vision and my eye, this is the product of a cloudy day in East Toronto.

father's day weekend tytan and kim

On this Father's Day weekend I went home to see not only my parents but a few lovely people that I call part of my own family as well. Queen West to the Distillery-May 15th 2010

It's been awhile since my last blog post as I have been inordinately busy finishing up my year at Teacher's College. Last saturday however, I found time to take my camera and go on a photo walk of my own to see what I could see....the Asian ladies meditating near Nathan Phillips Square were incredbile. The most awesome thing that happened to me was meeting Harry and Howard, the two fine gentlemen you see in the first photograph. I walked by and read their sign to myself and thought, "yup." I really want to do a photo series in Toronto surrounding homeless people and hopefully get some money that I can donate to some programs I know of in the city. Today was the day that I would snap my first photo.

Howard told me tales of Starbucks and what they do with their coffee grinds (as I sipped my Vanilla Bean Latte; "not that he gave a shit!") I threw them some cash and asked if I could take their pic, they happily obliged and after Harry came up to tell me that he is from a Native Tribe near Winninpeg and that NOBODY has ever taken a photo of him before. I told him that I knew that could sometimes be the case, and that I was incredibly humbled, for that particular reason.

Thanks to Harry and Howard; someone's brother, cousin, father, and, oh you know the rest...it all helps.

From Korea With Love

Welcome to the first installment of the Travel series!!

I decided to go through my pics from all of my travels over the past two years, do some edits and post them on this blog for you all to see. Thus you have, "From Korea With Love", a series of photos highlighting my travels in 'The Hermit Kingdom' showcasing everything from tea fields to adorable asians.

In order of appearance, the locales are as follows; Boseong Green Tea fields, Mount. Daedunsan in Wanju County (pay VERY close attention to the "RULES" for walking along the bridge :), Mount. Jirisan (800 metres high and completely exhausted). My pretty little city of Jeonju (pop. 600,000) complete with back alleys, a little tuna at the grocery store, arm wrestle a foreigner night, my students, Deokjin Park skateboarding and a little badass target practice.

A little piece of my heart will always belong in Korea; with the people and places that made the experience amazing, difficult and taught me more about myself than I thought I could ever learn.

For one of my very best friend's birthdays this weekend, I decided to venture out to my local Fire Dept. to see if they would let me take some photos. They kindly obliged and I captured these shots which I'm very proud of. My friend was recently hired to Markham Fire and we are all incredibly proud of him! I gave these to him for his 25th bday and they are meant to commemorate such an awesome accomplishment. Congrats B!

PILLOW FIGHTS??

You heard me. Pillow Fights. Spandex wearing, high flying, pillow destroying fun for all ages! Pillow fights are for girls-and I'm glad. These ladies are absolute warriors and I've honestly never been so afraid of sleep. I had the opportunity to photograph the PFL while shooting the Toronto Women's Roller Derby last weekend and I loved it!

The Balconies and Friends!

Well, what can I say about The Balconies?

They are amazing, and to prove their awesome-ness they decided to bring all their friends together on a rainy night at Sneaky Dee's for a show that no doubt will be remembered by all those who were lucky enough to get out there. The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and Neil Young were among those honoured with tributes that literally shook the floor.

As I sit here posting this to you, it is a balmy 16 degrees outside and I can't believe it-Spring has sprung! In honour of the darling buds of May (yeah I know it's March, but you certainly aren't acting like it now are you flip-flops?), I have decided to start taking my hobby to a new level. I'm trying to focus more on the things that scare me, and a little less on those where I am just, comfortable. So, I give you Pin Up Girl Photography, my hobby and passions combined. The name and image come from my love of things that are old: purses, shoes, clothes, records, people-old people are the greatest! Anyways, combine that with the pictures I've been taking my whole life: places, music, people as well as how being an athlete growing up has shaped me and this is it. On this blog I'm going to be posting photographs that I take as I build my portfolio and make my journey into the world of freelance photography.
